Boardwalk Project

Community Footsteps Boardwalk Campaign

Our boardwalk trail system is considered by many people to be the most important feature of the Reserve.  The boardwalks are critical for the Reserve’s environmental and nature education programs for children and adults.  the original boardwalks were constructed over 20 years ago of untreated oak framing, and have now reached the end of their life expectancy. We have proactively made repairs to sections of boardwalk exhibiting immediate or impending problems, but the time has come to do much more.  In 2012 we began to replace the entire 4,000 feet of boardwalk system.

2016 Status – At the end of construction season in 2015 we had replaced 69% of the boardwalk.  The remaining 1,300 feet of the project is scheduled for completion in 2016.  A temporary storage building will be housed in the now closed south parking lot to decrease the time needed to get materials to the construction area.  If the weather is cooperative, we should be able to finish the project this summer.

Funding continues to be needed to help complete this project.  Won’t you help support it? The Community Footsteps Boardwalk Campaign continues in 2016, and we invite everyone to donate toward its completion.  All donations will go directly to the purchase of materials needed for construction.   All donations are tax deductible and donors will be recognized on this page and in the Nature Center.
